MUSIC!…..(WITH A SIDE OF FRIES)

I’m Dalisay Johnson, (“Dee” for short), from Fresno, California and I am a musician/singer who has developed a taste for the yummy things in life.  I’m a private music teacher by day and a working performer all the rest of the available hours.  I welcome you to enter my world that combines my two biggest passions: music and food!  I’ve been in the music scene for longer than I care to admit. (Okay, like……since I was six.)  Music is what brings people together, I’ve found.  But you know what else brings people together?  FOOD.  Oh yes, the way to this musician’s heart is through sweet words on my tongue and savory food in my belly.

So, why did I start this blog?  Because people often ask me about certain aspects of my life that I don’t always have time to share in conversation.  I wanted to create a space that invites friends and followers to share in my food journeys, music that I make, and a few other random things that I have going on.  Maybe we like the same things!

Am I your cup of tea?  I have no idea.  If you don’t already know me, I suppose I should give you a short summary.  However, I’m noticing that the older I get, the more random I become.  This is starting to translate into the building blocks of my life.  Let me illustrate some random facts in an easy to read bullet-point section:

  • -I was born in Anchorage, Alaska (I’m not telling you when) and moved to Fresno, California a couple years later.

  • -I am half Filipino, half German, I look Mexican, married a Greek, am addicted to Italian food/culture, and primarily play good ole’ American country/bluegrass music. (I know, right? Weird.)

  • -I’ve been studying the Italian language and am desperately trying to become fluent.  Even though I have no Italian ties except for my addiction to pasta.

  • -I perform barefoot when I play the fiddle, but love wearing shoes if I am only singing.

  • -I have an obsession with creating funky nail art designs on my toes.  Toes only.

  • -I couldn’t boil water, let alone cook a decent meal until I was 31 and acquired a magic kitchen that transformed me. (Crap. I just gave a reference to my age.)

  • -I have three extra bones in my body. One in each foot and one in my left knee.

I hope you enjoy what I post. I encourage you to listen to the music I share, try the recipes I discover, and maybe learn a few random Italian phrases occasionally spliced in.  But above all, just laugh and love life along with me!
